The talk at the start of the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this week was that not only were the Chicago Bears going to trade quarterback Justin Fields but the Atlanta Falcons were the clear frontrunners.

With the Scouting Combine concluding on Sunday, the expectation remains that Fields will be traded at some point within the next week or two. Though, the Falcons may no longer be the frontrunner.

The Falcons may be prioritizing a pursuit of Kirk Cousins before pulling the trigger on a trade for Fields.

With the Falcons taking a backseat in the market for Fields, for now, a new team has emerged. ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team to keep an eye on regarding a possible trade for Fields.

Reports earlier this off-season indicated that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Fields and could be the launching point for a deal between the two teams.

There have been reports about what the Steelers plan to do at the quarterback position this off-season. While there seems to be a consensus that the Steelers are not ready to give up on former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, there also may be an acknowledgment that Pickett can’t enter the 2024 season as the unquestioned starting quarterback for the team.

With the cost it would take to acquire Fields seemingly coming down with each passing day, the Steelers may be able to acquire Fields for a second-round pick and conditional future-round pick. That cost would not be to the point where Fields should instantly be inserted as the team’s starting quarterback but one that would allow for competition with Pickett during training camp. Of course, Fields would likely beat out Pickett, assuming it’s an actual competition.
