Another Team Is Said To Be Interested In A Justin Fields Pursuit

Benjamin Allbright reported recently that depending on how things finish down in Atlanta, there is a strong possibility the Falcons may engage the Chicago Bears on a Justin Fields trade, presuming the QB is available. It makes sense. They aren’t likely to pick in the top five next spring. Atlanta has serious quarterback problems. Former Bears GM Ryan Pace works in their front office. He drafted Fields. It isn’t a hard connection to make. Unless there is a complete organizational overhaul in January, that feels like the prominent landing spot.

Don’t expect it to be the only one, though. Harrison Graham of Chat Sports reported that several colleagues who cover the Las Vegas Raiders have heard players in the locker room saying they’d love to have Fields on their team next year.

Like Atlanta, the Raiders are another team that needs a quarterback but won’t be picking high enough to get one of the top guys in the draft. Aidan O’Connell doesn’t seem like somebody they’re itching to hitch their wagon to. With his speed, a huge athletic talent like Fields, playing in that building eight times a year, would certainly seem appealing.

A Justin Fields trade to Las Vegas is tough to project.
For one, it isn’t clear who the head coach and GM will be after the season. Antonio Pierce is the interim coach, while Champ Kelly occupies the same position as GM. Kelly was with the Bears’ front office in 2021 when they drafted Fields. So that connection gives this idea some legs. Passing game coordinator Scott Turner worked with guys like Cam Newton and Teddy Bridgewater. So he’s familiar with the type of player Fields is. If owner Mark Davis keeps those guys in place, then a trade becomes far more plausible.

As always, everything depends on what GM Ryan Poles plans to do. Several people close to the Bears seem confident he will move off Justin Fields and select a quarterback #1 overall. In that event, trading Fields becomes inevitable. There is almost certainly going to be a market. It all depends on how many teams will be interested. If Las Vegas enters the fray alongside Atlanta, that could create a nice bidding war. Projections have the Bears getting somewhere around a 2nd round pick for the young quarterback.

This continues to be something to watch.
