As per Will Sammon of The Athletic, the New York Yankees are one of the teams interested in signing third baseman Gio Urshela a current free agent.
Urshela enjoyed a breakout season with the Yankees back from 2019-2021 and spent three seasons in the Bronx. In 291 games, he hit .292 with a .815 OPS and 41 home runs.

He was traded to the Minnesota Twins in March 2022 and moved on to the Los Angeles Angels in 2023. After he broke his pelvis but did not require surgery, he has been playing in the Colombian Winter League this offseason.
Urshela is known as an above-average regular in the infield with a .291/.335/.452 slash line good for a 115 wRC+ over the past five seasons with the Yankees, Twins, and Angels.
Despite his recent injury, he still stands as one of the better infield options on the market this offseason.
In an interview with NJ Advance Media, Urshela also shared how much he enjoyed playing for the Yankees. He said,
“It’s always special (coming back). I’ve got a lot of good memories in New York.”
If he returns to the Yankees, he is expected to probably play third base when DJ LeMahieu isn’t there and fill in at short during Anthony Volpe’s rare days.
In the case second baseman Gleyber Torres isn’t in the lineup, Urshela could start at second or play third with LeMahieu at second base.
As per the reports, The Yankees are showing interest in a potential reunion with free-agent infielder Gio Urshela.
