Yankees Floated As One Of Top Landing Spots For Hurler With Ace Potential In Possible Trade

The New York Yankees already have completed two big trades this offseason, so why not do a third?

New York has added some much-needed outfield help this offseason by landing Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. The Yankees’ next biggest need is in the starting rotation.

The Yankees need to add at least one more starter this offseason. New York has been linked to multiple starters in free agency, but the trade market could be an option as well. If the Yankees were to look to land a pitcher through trade, one player who could be an option is Miami Marlins young hurler Jesús Luzardo, according to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller.

“After giving up a bunch of their best trade chips to acquire Juan Soto, the Yankees don’t have many options for prying Luzardo away from the Marlins,” Miller said. “If they don’t come out swinging with either Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez, or top prospect Spencer Jones in the deal, it’s not gonna happen.

“But after falling short in the bidding war for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they definitely have a need for a starting pitcher, if not several. Will Warren is just a placeholder in the projected rotation, and they would probably be open to using Clarke Schmidt as a middle/long reliever if they can land two more starters. So to get Luzardo, perhaps they offer up Jones, 18 months after taking him in the first round of the 2022 draft.”

New York still has a solid farm system after landing the trio of outfielders and could get a deal done if it wanted to. Luzardo has shown true ace potential and is just 26 years old. The young ace has two straight seasons with an ERA under 4.00 under his belt and certainly could help shore up the Yankees’ rotation.
