The San Francisco 49ers were getting crushed on social media Monday following reports that the team was unhappy with the field conditions at their practice facility for Super Bowl Week in Las Vegas.
The San Francisco 49ers were already at a disadvantage
The 49ers were supposed to practice at UNLV’s practice facility. The Kansas City Chiefs are at the Las Vegas Raiders practice facility. Many fans thought the Chiefs had an advantage by practicing at an NFL facility. However, that’s how the cookie crumbles because the Super Bowl is being held in an AFC city.
The 49ers are looking for another place to practice
As discussed by Alec Musa with GH, the 49ers are exploring practicing at another venue in the desert oasis because the staff is “unhappy” with the artificial turf conditions of the UNLV practice field:
Meanwhile, the AFC team, the Chiefs, will practice at the Raiders’ facilities. However, San Francisco staffers are unsatisfied with the UNLV’s practice field. Per CBS NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the 49ers are ‘unhappy’ with the condition of this week’s practice field, citing an issue with the firmness of the league’s natural grass over UNLV’s artificial turf.
Jones reports that a group representing the 49ers felt the grass designated for the team held too soft. Sources known to Jones state that the issue is preference-related and has nothing to do with health and safety.
Kansas City Chiefs fans call the 49ers team “soft”
Chiefs fans mocked the 49ers for throwing a fit about their practice facility. Here are the best takes of fans roasting the 49ers about soft turf.
Sources tell @CBSSports the 49ers Super Bowl practice field measured a bit soft for their liking last week. The field passes all safety tests, but SF’s preference is for it to be firmer. They have a walkthrough on it today and will determine next steps https://t.co/e4bkFjO9y7
