The Pittsburgh Steelers had a rough 2023 season even though they made it to the postseason. With injuries to star players like T.J. Watt and the team’s top two quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Mitchell Trubisky, it was a rough season for the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin. Now, a report has come out that the team has released one of their veteran quarterbacks, who could soon be with a new team given his history.
Pittsburgh Steelers Release Quarterback
The Steelers have released quarterback Mitchell Trubisky after both sides agreed to part ways according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. Trubisky started in five games in the 2023 season, amounting to just 632 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions for a quarterback rating of 71.9. The quarterback struggled in his time on the field, not being able to have one game with 200 or more passing yards before suffering an injury, leading to Mason Rudolph coming in to replace him for the rest of the season.

Trubisky still had two years left on his contract with the team, with $5.25 million due to him in the 2024 season. Pittsburgh struggled in the quarterback position during the 2023 season, which led several fans and analysts to believe that there would be some major changes to the position during the offseason. With Tomlin stating that Pickett will remain the starter going forward, and Rudolph having a solid campaign helping the Steelers clinch a playoff spot, it seemed like the team would be moving on from Trubisky after his struggles.
Journeyman
Trubisky has been on three different teams in his seven-year career, including the Chicago Bears, the Buffalo Bills, and the Steelers. He was a solid starter in Chicago, the team that drafted him in 2017, but he was released after the 2020 season, leaving him a backup option for most franchises. He has amounted to 12,536 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 48 interceptions in his career, for an overall quarterback rating of 85.5.
Where Will Trubisky Be In 2024
Even though the quarterback is set to become a free agent, there should be many teams that are interested in bringing him in either as a starter or a solid backup. Given his history, he will likely end up with a team that just needs a backup quarterback as Trubisky has had many struggles throughout his career with consistency. Where do you think the veteran quarterback will end up in 2024?
