Russell Wilson hints at Denver Broncos exit as £20m mansion put up for sale

Russell Wilson has seemingly dropped a hint he will be leaving the Denver Broncos after putting his massive mansion on the market for a whopping $25million.

The Super Bowl winner and his pop star wife Ciara are selling their Cherry Hills Village home, which broke records as the most expensive property sale in the Denver area. The couple’s life in Colorado hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows since Wilson’s big move from the Seattle Seahawks in 2022.

It's been incredible" - Ciara opens up about starting a new chapter with Russell Wilson in Denver

Their enormous 20,000-square-foot home sits on five acres of land and has four bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. According to the Denver Post, they’re even offering tours to potential buyers who want to see the house’s two walk-in closets, offices, indoor swimming pool, basketball court and separate self-catering flat.

Unfortunately, the Broncos didn’t have a great season, with a disappointing 5-12 record and their head coach Nathaniel Hackett losing his job after just 15 games. Even though former New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton stepped in to replace Hackett, 2023 was still a tough year for Wilson both on and off the field.

Despite being a top quarterback who made it to nine Pro Bowls with the Seahawks, Wilson’s performance this season wasn’t up to par, with a 7-8 record as a starter and 26 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Some experts think that these numbers don’t tell the whole story and suggest that the playbook was simplified to prevent Wilson from making mistakes.

When the Denver Broncos’ chances for the playoffs were almost gone, with two games left, they put Wilson on the bench. They said it was because of how he played, but Wilson claimed it was due to a dispute over a clause in his contract he was unwilling to waive.

Wilson has a special clause in his contract about getting injured If he’s still with the Broncos on March 17 this year, they have to pay him $37m for 2025 no matter what. If he had gotten hurt before the season ended, the Broncos couldn’t have stopped paying him by that date.

Russell Wilson was benched by the Denver Broncos for the final two games of the NFL season

Wilson is still under contract with the Broncos until 2028, but it looks like he won’t be there much longer. Many believe the franchise will pick a new quarterback in the NFL Draft in April.

Things went wrong between Wilson and the team when they had a week off in the middle of the season. After they won against the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl, Wilson said that the team asked him to change his contract.

In December, Wilson told the media: “Yeah, we beat the Chiefs, they came up to me during the bye week, beginning of the bye week, Monday or Tuesday, and they told me that if I didn’t change my contract, my injury guarantee, that I’d be benched for the rest of the year.

“And we had nine games left or so. I was definitely disappointed about it, and it was a process throughout the whole week, for the whole bye week.”
