Bears top draft target not expected to play in the Cotton Bowl

As the Chicago Bears get set to host the Atlanta Falcons in their final home game of the 2023 NFL regular season, the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft will be playing their final game of their college career, but one top name has already played his last college football game.

Bears top draft target Marvin Harrison Jr. not expected to play in the Cotton Bowl - A to Z Sports

It was just announced that Ohio State wide receiver, and one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, Marvin Harrison Jr. will not be suiting up tonight for what would’ve been his final game at the college level.

The Buckeyes will be facing off against Missouri later tonight in the Cotton Bowl and will be without their top weapon who instead now sets his eyes toward the NFL Draft.

The next game we see Harrison suit up for will be in the NFL, the question now becomes which jersey will he be wearing? Harrison is expected to be on many team’s radar in April’s draft, including the Chicago Bears who are currently armed with two Top-10 picks entering Week 17.

The Bears will have a lot of tough decisions to make before April’s draft comes around, mainly at the quarterback position. However, if the team decides to keep starting quarterback Justin Fields, Harrison is the most likely bet to land in Chicago with their top pick.

The best wide receiver in the country would make an immediate impact in the NFL and in Chicago would be paired alongside star wide receiver DJ Moore. It’s an enticing possibility to consider for Bears general manager Ryan Poles.

Harrison’s tenure at Ohio State comes to an end after racking up 155 receptions, 2,613 receiving yards and 31 receiving touchdowns during his three years.

Harrison is now set to join a long list fellow Ohio State wide receivers who were drafted in the first round in the NFL. The list that recently includes Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Garrett Wilson, and Chris Olave. Michael Thomas and Terry McLaurin, two other top wide receivers in the NFL, also started out as former Buckeyes.

Many, including Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, believe that Harrison could be the best out of the pantheon of star wide receivers that have come from the program.

Harrison is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison who played 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and was named to three All-Pros and eight Pro Bowls during his historic career.

The young phenom is now ready to follow the great footsteps laid out before him and make in his mark in the NFL. Will he land with the Bears in Chicago or will the team instead look to pursue their next franchise quarterback?
