The 2024 MLB season is approaching, and the 2023 NL Cy Young winner, Blake Snell, has still not signed with a team.
Nonetheless, teams all over the league are ramping up their aggression to acquire the lefty ace, but the New York Yankees aren’t a part of that list.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Yankees have reportedly not ‘re-engaged’ in talks to acquire the 31-year-old.
Instead, the Yankees have their eye on the 2023 All-Star and Southern California’s own Michael Lorenzen.
The fact that Snell has yet to sign with a team is pretty wild. He’s coming off a dominant season, his most dominant season since his last Cy Young season in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Padres were never in the running for Snell due to their financial struggles. Still, you would think at least one team would jump at the opportunity to sign the one-time All-Star.
He and his team are still trying to find a club for him, and teams are trying to come up with a reasonable deal. Snell could start for over half of the team’s come Opening Day, which is less than two weeks from now.
The anticipation is building, and I’m sure we’ll all be shocked if he’s not with a team by the end of the week.
