The New York Jets have been trying to clear salary cap space ahead of the free agency period officially starting and on Tuesday, the team decided to cut tight end C.J. Uzomah, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. This move will save the team $5.3 million in cap space and allow them to go after other free agents going forward.
Uzomah played 27 games in his two seasons with the Jets and had 29 receptions on 39 targets for 290 yards (10.0 yards per catch) with three receiving touchdowns. He was unable to be the threat the Jets expected when signing him ahead of the 2022 season that he was in his seven years previous with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The New York Jets have to figure out some offensive weapons to get more going with the team but the tight end position may not see improvement. With players like Jeremy Ruckert and Tyler Conklin on the roster, they may decide the tight end group is good enough or go get one for cheap in free agency.

The New York Jets have to improve the offense if they want to make the playoffs for the first time since 2010. They are reportedly targeting wide receiver Calvin Ridley to pair up with Garrett Wilson. However, the team needs more than just a wide receiver in order to do well.
The Jets are going to need to address the offensive line if they want to step up and take the next step. Some offensive linemen that the team can target are All-Pro offensive tackle Tyron Smith, center Connor Williams, offensive tackle Donovan Smith and guard Kevin Zeitler just to name a few.
This team is going to look completely different than Week 18 of last year and have a significant amount of cap space. The Jets have a lot of different avenues they can go with free agency and the NFL draft to address some significant holes. However, with Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, this team does have some solid pieces already.
