AFC rival poaches Mike Edwards in transparent act of desperation

The Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t keep the whole band together after the Super Bowl. The NFL offseason sees new players come to One Arrowhead Drive, while others begin the next chapter of their NFL careers. Safety Mike Edwards bid adieu to the Chiefs, joining the AFC East contending Buffalo Bills for the 2024 season.

Buffalo added the 27-year-old veteran on a one-year deal, with no financial terms disclosed. This will be Edwards’ third team in as many years after playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022. He won his second Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs this year after winning his first against Kansas City years ago while in Tampa.

Edwards came to Kansas City as safety depth but carved out an important role. His ability to read the game and make crucial plays was underestimated, especially on his two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits. Edwards racked up 51 combined tackles and one sack while playing in Steve Spagnuolo’s blitz-heavy defense.

After Buffalo moved on from several defensive backs this offseason, they needed to rebuild somehow. Edwards is a good short-term addition and had nothing but great things to say about his new team.

“You can pick up on some things that you can translate over to the next team and try to give a little insight on what it takes to win the Super Bowl,” Edwards shared. “What it takes to get over the hump, what it takes to win those games week in and week out…I have all the confidence in the world that we can do that and get to the Super Bowl and finally make it happen.”

Well Mike, Kansas City will have something to say about the Bills chasing the elusive Lombardi Trophy. But, Chiefs Kingdom had nothing but good things to say about Edwards after the deal’s announcement. Wish you the best of luck in Buffalo, but not any at the Chiefs’ expense of course.
