Kansas City Chiefs fans reacted on social media to the surprising decision to bench a hero from the team’s Super Bowl win last year over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are set to play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in this season’s Super Bowl.
The Kansas City Chiefs are making a WR a healthy scratch
As Robin wrote on GH, Adam Schefter with ESPN reported early Sunday morning the Chiefs are set to make wide receiver Kadarius Toney a healthy scratch against the 49ers. Reid said earlier this week he was considering benching Toney this week.
Toney struggled with penalties and drops during the regular season. Toney was placed on the Chiefs injury report following the New England Patriots contest in December and has been out of the lineup since. He took to Instagram Live before the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game to claim his injuries had been made up.
Kadarius Toney was key to last year’s Super Bowl win
Toney was a hero for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, with his best plays coming in the critical fourth quarter of Kansas City’s win. Toney caught a touchdown pass in the early part of the fourth quarter. He returned a punt for 65 yards to give the Chiefs possession at the Eagles’ five-yard line.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would hit Skyy Moore for a touchdown to take a 35-27 lead three plays later. The Chiefs would ultimately prevail 38-35 over the Eagles.
