Kansas City Chiefs Sign $82.5 Million WR in Free Agency, Draft Another To Boost Patrick Mahomes’ Weaponry (PREDICTION)

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first team to win a Super Bowl three-peat, and in order to do so, they will have to reload in the offseason.

Sure the Chiefs have already a team that won back-to-back titles, but it’s impossible for the team to retain their current roster. Like in their previous championship runs, they will have to make some tweaks and improvements around Patrick Mahomes.

It won’t make sense for the Chiefs to retain everyone on their current roster as well. Not after their offense took a step back throughout the season, particularly their wide receiving group.

Kansas City could really use a boost on their WR corps for 2024, and so they will have to take advantage of free agency and the draft to do just that.

In order to address their offensive needs, Aaron Schatz of ESPN suggested that the Chiefs sign Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans in free agency and use the draft to take another wide receiver.

By signing Evans, the Chiefs would be able to give Mahomes another trusty and tested weapon that can further elevate their offense. On the other hand, with the no. 32 pick, they can take another receiver that they could develop to become the next big thing in Kansas City.

Schatz noted that Florida State’s Keon Coleman seems to be a good fit and could be the “heir apparent” to Evans with the Chiefs.

“Yes, Evans will be 31 years old this year, but he’s still playing at a high level. Evans ranked 23rd in DVOA among qualifying wide receivers last season and has 10 straight years with at least 1,000 receiving yards. And he’s money in the red zone, with 13 touchdowns last season. Imagine Patrick Mahomes throwing to Evans on one side with Rashee Rice on the other side and Travis Kelce in the middle. It’s enough for Chiefs Kingdom to already start planning another celebration,” Schatz wrote.

“And what to do about Evans’ age? Well, start preparing for the inevitable by using that No. 32 pick on another wide receiver who can gradually step in over the next couple of years. Florida State’s Keon Coleman has similar size and would make a perfect heir apparent to Evans.”

The Chiefs’ wide receivers dropped the most passes in 2023 with 44, so changes are really needed. With Evans in tow, that number should decrease dramatically.

It remains to be seen if Kansas City will be able to pull it off and attract Evans, but they really need to try.Ezoic

The Kansas City Chiefs are the team to beat once again in 2024, and there will be huge targets on their backs as they look to achieve the first ever NFL three-peat.

Sure enough, there’s a reason why no team has done it before. Considering how hard it is to win in the NFL, having a legendary player isn’t enough. Even Tom Brady wasn’t able to do it with the New England Patriots despite coming close in 2006.

If the Chiefs want to achieve that historic feat, their current roster won’t be enough. Of course signing Mike Evans alone won’t ensure they can return to the Super Bowl, but it’s definitely a gigantic step towards that.
