The Kansas City Chiefs are already loaded on the defensive side of the ball. Could you imagine if they somehow were able to land the recently retired Aaron Donald to their defensive ranks? That’s what Travis Kelce is pushing for.
Kelce said on The New Heights podcast when discussing Donald and his recent retirement that if the future Hall of Famer wants to win another Super Bowl ring, he could join Kelce in Kansas City.
“If you want to win one more, uh, Super Bowl. Just, uh… we’ll probably… have some availability somewhere in December.”
As cool as this would be, it’s highly unlikely that we ever see Donald in a Chiefs uniform. First and foremost, if Donald were to decide to come out of retirement, the Rams would still retain his rights. Then again, that could be worked around, as we’ve seen in the past with players who come out of retirement. The Rams could actually get something in return for Donald if he did decide to return to the NFL.
That being said, this isn’t something that I’d expect to happen. Donald made it pretty clear when discussing why he decided to retire that he was burnt out and didn’t have the same passion for football anymore. Do those sound like the words of someone who wants to return to the league?
Who knows though? Maybe later in the season rolls around and Donald suddenly has an itch to play again and decides he wants to join a team on the quest for a three-peat.
