When it comes to comeback stories, only a few sports stories can match up to what Mecole Hardman went through. After the New York Jets lost Aaron Rodgers, it seemed like he was destined to ride the bench for the remainder of the 2023 season.
However, he found a new lease of life for his pro career after the Kansas City Chiefs brought him back and became the key cog that helped them win the Super Bowl.
With Hardman standing at the top of the world, it’s almost natural for him to take a couple of swipes to the team that almost ruined his pro career.
Mecole Hardman trolls New York Jets after Super Bowl LVIII win
Mike Luciano of the Jet Press wrote about Hardman’s experience with the AFC East side after Aaron Rodgers went down and what he now thinks of the team where he rarely made an impact:
After the Rodgers injury, the Jets stuck Hardman on the bench and barely gave him any playing time. By the middle of the year, Hardman would be traded back to the Chiefs. While he was largely ineffective, the speedy deep threat came alive when the chips were down in Super Bowl LVIII.
Hardman jokingly said “don’t remind me” when asked about his cameo with the Jets earlier in the season. It seems that riding Mahomes’ coattails for another ring was a better use of his time than watching Zach Wilson passes sail over his head.
To say Hardman’s Jets run was disappointing is the understatement of the year. Through six games where he didn’t make a single start, he was only targeted once for a measly six yards.
It wasn’t like his numbers suddenly took an upswing when he rejoined Andy Reid’s more familiar scheme at Kansas City. Through the remaining six games of the season, he made 14 receptions for 118 yards.
However, he and the rest of Chiefs Kingdom will be arguing that his Super Bowl performance is what matters most. During the biggest game of his career, he made three receptions for 57 yards. That includes the touchdown that clinched his third Super Bowl ring.
New York Jets fans could only wish that it was Aaron Jones flick that pass to the speedy wideout.
