Ravens Free Agency: Ex Dallas Cowboy Needed at Cornerback?

The Baltimore Ravens are building for the future through free agency and will continue to do so through April’s NFL Draft.

One position general manager Eric DeCosta will need to address at some point is cornerback. Baltimore struggled to replace Marcus Peters after he bolted for Las Vegas last offseason.

Ronald Darby left for Jacksonville last week while Rock-Ya Sin and Daryl Worley are both on the open market in free agency. It’s possible one or both of the latter return, but even so, is there a better option to play opposite Marlon Humphrey?

Former Dallas Cowboys corner Stephon Gilmore is available and could be an improvement in the defensive secondary in Baltimore.

Gilmore has been a journeyman of late, but his early career success has followed him to each spot.

His career has taken him to Buffalo, New England (where he won two Super Bowls), Carolina, Indianapolis and Dallas. Since joining the NFL in 2012, Gilmore has tallied 29 interceptions.

Last season with the Cowboys, Gilmore played in all 17 games for the Cowboys, often drawing the opposition’s best wideout after Trevon Diggs went down to a season-ending injury in Week 2.

He posted two interceptions, 13 passes defended, one interception and one forced fumble. The former South Carolina Gamecock cornerback also registered 68 total tackles with 54 solo.

Spotrac projects Gilmore to sign a one-year, $11.1 million contract in free agency, something the Ravens would have to get creative with in order to afford. But with other names available like Xavien Howard looking to draw even more in free agency after he’s cut by the Dolphins this offseason, Gilmore could be an attractive option for Baltimore.
