Report: Steelers Expected To Explore Signing Titans Quarterback Ryan Tannehill

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly considering signing Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill when free agency opens. Tannehill could potentially reunite with former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who’s the Steelers’ new offensive coordinator.

NASHVILLE — According to reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are considering signing Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who will become a free agent soon.

Titans' Ryan Tannehill likely to start in season finale: 'I would love to be able to leave it on a win' | Fox News

Tannehill is one of 24 Titans players with expiring contracts, including running back Derrick Henry. According to a report on NFL Network, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to consider reuniting Tannehill with former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

“With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the expectation is Pittsburgh will explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there,” The NFL Insiders Said.

Tannehill, 35, played for the Titans for the past five seasons. Before that, he played for the Miami Dolphins for six years. During his time with the Titans, Tannehill has started 63 games and won 39. He was instrumental in leading the Titans to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 2019 to 2021.

Tannehill’s first two playoff seasons were with Smith as the Titans’ offensive coordinator.

In 2019, Ryan Tannehill started as a backup but eventually took over Marcus Mariota’s starting position. He played 12 games, including 10 starts, and threw for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Tannehill’s contribution helped the Tennessee Titans reach their first AFC Championship Game since 2002.

The following season, Tannehill had a career-high 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions, completing 65.5% of his passes for 3,819 yards.

Last season, Tannehill completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven picks in 10 games and eight starts. Tannehill struggled with injuries and eventually lost the starting job to rookie Will Levis.

It seems unlikely that the Tennessee Titans will re-sign Tannehill, given that his name did not come up in new coach Brian Callahan’s introductory press conference. Everything suggests that Levis is the team’s quarterback of the future. However, it is possible that Smith’s coaching could unlock something in Tannehill, making this a mutually beneficial arrangement for all parties involved.

SIMMONS ON BOARD WITH RAN AND CALLAHAN: Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons discussed his belief in Titans coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon. Simmons is confident the Titans are headed in the right direction.
TEE HIGGINS OPEN TO HOMECOMING: Tee Higgins, an Oak Ridge High School alum and currently a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, shared that he is open to playing for the Tennessee Titans. Higgins mentioned that it would be “ideal” for him to reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan, who is now the Titans’ coach.
WILL LEVIS BELIEVES IN CALLAHAN: Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis lost his coach and got a new one during two eventful weeks in January. Now he is excited to work with two highly regarded teachers of the passing game — coach Brian Callahan and offensive coordinator Nick Holz.
