After completing their first official interview earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers were back at work today in search of their next OC.
Looking for a candidate that has ample knowledge of offensive scheme and the ability to develop QBs, the process is tedious and the list is short.
But one such name may fit the bill, even if he used to be a bitter rival:
Steelers Interview Texans QB Coach Jerrod Johnson for OC Job
Johnson played QB in the league as a practice squad player for a variety of teams from 2011 to 2016. While he didn’t see many live reps, he still developed and was taught the game from the best instructors in the world.
Johnson would parlay that into his own coaching career, most recently with the Houston Texans.
Everyone may be raving over Texans OC Bobby Slowik (rightfully so) buit it was Johnson who is in direct contact with rookie QB CJ Stoud on a daily basis, helping usher the first-year starter into one of the better rookie campaigns we have ever seen from a QB.
Kenny Pickett’s development should be and likely is paramount in the teams search at OC. Year three will be either the turning point or the nail in the coffin for the former first-round pick.
