The rookie signal-caller used to be on the other end of the rivalry, however.<\/p>\n<p>After the Bears selected Williams first overall in the draft, an old social media post from March of 2022 by the former USC quarterback re-emerged and made the rounds:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkayy I guess I\u2019m still a packer fan!\u201d\u00a0Williams wrote on X\u00a0(formerly Twitter) in March of 2022. The post came during a time when one of Williams\u2019 favorite players, former Packers and current\u00a0New York Jets\u00a0quarterback Aaron Rodgers, announced he\u2019d be back in Green Bay for one more year, which likely provided the context.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Caleb Williams Isn\u2019t a Packers Fan Anymore<\/h2>\n<div id=\"04413707a8f3783e5d6623d8cc60c347\">\n<article>I wonder if Caleb Williams is still gonna be a Packers fan<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<p>An admitted longtime fan of Rodgers, who\u00a0Williams has called\u00a0his \u201cfootball GOAT,\u201d the new Bears QB told\u00a0670 The Score\u2019s Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel\u00a0that he\u2019s \u201cexcited\u201d to go up against Green Bay, who is now his top divisional rival.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears feel confident Williams can lead Chicago to its third playoff appearance in 13 years and its first playoff win since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a guy that has all the tools,\u201d Bears general manager\u00a0Ryan Poles said about Williams. \u201cIt\u2019s going to take hard work. It\u2019s going to take getting in synch with his teammates. There\u2019s a long road up ahead to develop the places where he needs to develop to win games and bring a championship here but the beautiful thing is we have the right people here, we have the right teammates. I feel really good about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got special instincts, awareness, especially in the pocket to manipulate the pocket, get in and out of the pocket, spatial, (his) feel for space is special. That\u2019s his special sauce,\u201d Poles added. \u201cThen once we kind of speed things up and start to identify different coverages and there\u2019s an adjustment to an NFL offense that he\u2019s got to go through as well. So we\u2019re really excited to work with the tools he has.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>It\u2019ll Take a Team Effort to Bear Green Bay, Win NFC North<\/h2>\n<p>In the\u00a0two seasons he spent with the Trojans, Williams completed 599 of 888 passes for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 503 yards and 21 scores.<\/p>\n<p>A passer first who can also do damage with his legs, Williams was widely considered by draft analysts and experts to be the\u00a0consensus top pick. But the rookie QB knows he won\u2019t be able to take down the Packers or help Chicago win the division by himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say that the QB position is necessarily to be the reason why the team wins,\u201d Williams said at his first official presser on April 26. \u201cIt\u2019s to be a portion of it. There\u2019s obviously 10 other people on the field when you\u2019re on the field. Then, at other times, whether it\u2019s special teams, there\u2019s 11 people. And then on defense, there\u2019s another 11 on the field. So it\u2019s a team sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I love this sport so much but my reason to go out there is to win games,\u201d Williams added. \u201cMy reason why I play is to win games and to win championships. \u2026 I want to go out there, I want to have fun, I want to enjoy it, and I want to do it with my teammates.
