C.J. Stroud Was So Bummed About the 49ers’ First Round Pick

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was a part of Bleacher Report‘s NFL draft coverage on Thursday night, and showed clear disappointment that his team missed out on drafting University of Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.

Pearsall was targeted late in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers, who selected the Gators star with the No. 31 pick. Stroud’s reaction was priceless.

“Well we probably wasn’t gonna get a receiver, but shoutout to Pearsall man,” Stroud said after visibly being disappointed that the 49ers selected the offensive weapon. The Texans did not have a first round pick after executing a trade-back with the Minnesota Vikings weeks before the draft.

“How was he even on their radar? I’m happy for him though. He wanted to go in the first round. He gets more money. I talked to him a couple times, man, congrats, bro, that’s big time. Bro, he’s elite. Especially in that offense, man, Kyle [Shanahan] is gonna dial it up for him. That’s why I felt like he was gonna fit in our system so well. …I wanted him bad,” Stroud added.

Stroud was hoping the Texans would find a way to add to a receiving corps that now also includes Stefon Diggs, who was acquired from the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason. Unfortunately for Stroud, Pearsall is now off to San Francisco in an offense that appears to be a perfect fit for his skillset.
