‘Livid’ Nick Wright strongly believes Daniel Jones shouldn’t be in lead role for the Giants despite $160 million contract

In the 2024 NFL offseason, the name of New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been doing rounds. His future is presently dealing with some uncertainties. Jones featured only in six games last season, capping a rather disappointing season.

No Giants QB debate: Brian Daboll says Tyrod Taylor won't replace healthy Daniel Jones as starter - nj.com

Considering that there are possibilities that the team might go for a trade, the Giants still have the number six trade position available and might even go for a new QB. However, Jones has enjoyed good support in the squad. From the owner of the team John Mara to multiple former players who once played with the quarterback, they have voiced out that the New York Giants should keep the QB in the team.

However, Nick Wright had a rather different opinion on the same. Speaking on First Things First, Wright said:

Obviously not, but this is a world built by the Giants and they have to live in it. Brian Daboll and Joe Scohen what they had done for the Giants last year is really remarkable. Everyone knew, everyone that the last season was make-believe. There was a lot of unsustainable factors. But they got high on their own supply that ‘No no no, there was a quarterback whisper and they tied to this player. That player was healthy for four games. Last game, he was sacked ten times. This is actually a weird defensive team. Nick Wright said

In his further comments, the analyst said that the Giants’ management is in a hotchpotch situation. They are not very keen on keeping Daniel Jones, however, they can’t let him go as well. They might as well deal with it since it was allegedly brought upon by themselves.

John Mara is in support of Daniel Jones
The veteran owner John Mara did not hold himself to express his support to Daniel Jones. He exhibited faith in the quarterback despite the latter failing to achieve much success in his four years. The QB signed with the Jets in 2019. In his fourth year, the QB’s only success is making a playoff run in the 2022 season.

Nevertheless, the owner has provided a green light for a trade of the quarterback. He said that if the GM finds someone good then the team could probably go for it. Jones signed a mammoth $160 million contract after the 2022 season. Now, three years are remaining in the contract and the Jets might have to take a big financial risk in the coming time if they decide to trade Jones.

The hesitancy in a Giants’ owner is nothing new. Two decades back, the father of John Mara had a similar hesitancy when the Jets had to trade the quarterback Kerry Collins for Eli Manning. Collins was the personal favorite of Mara’s father. However, he traded him and brought Manning into the squad.
