It’s been an exhausting six-eight week since the Pittsburgh Steelers season ended on a cold Monday in Buffalo.
And not because of the team, but because of the ever-swirling rumor mill regarding what the Steelers will do at QB in 2024.
And while sorting through the trash leads back to Kenny Pickett as the team’s choice, ESPN’s Adam Schefter isn’t so sure:
Steelers Still in Play for Justin Fields?
“There’s been a lot of speculation on Atlanta,” Schefter told On3 Sports. “I think Atlanta will be something of a surprise right now to trade for Justin Fields. There’s been some conversation about the Pittsburgh Steelers, maybe something can be figured out there.”
Report from Adam Shefter today is what most heard from the combine – that the #Falcons are interested in Kirk Cousins. The likely teams left for Justin Fields are the #Steelers and #Raiders. Unless the #Bears wait for Cousins to sign, they may just take Pittsburgh’s best offer.

This report from Schefter is not only the first linking the Steelers with actual interest to Fields, but it also directly refutes a report from earlier in the week that said Atlanta was closing in on a trade for Fields, followed by DraftKings removing the odds to bet on Fields. all but ensuring he was headed back to Georgia, his home state.
So we’l see this goes. The thought that Chicago would get a deal done quickly is proving to be wrong, as those around me at the NFL Combine realized that Fields’ demand isn’t quite what Chicago anticipated, something confirmed by Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
And with Schefter being one of the most credible insiders in the sport, his words certainly carry weight. So for him to push back on the Falcons, while naming the Steelers is certainly an angle to watch.
